A once shoddy triplex becomes an inviting single-family home.

Our team completely rehabbed this home. We opened up the choppy floor plan by demolishing walls and creating a semi-open concept. On the first floor, we restored the original staircase by stripping the carpeting and paneling and refinishing and painting the surfaces for a refreshed, classic feel. We converted a dreary rear storage room into a cheery breakfast nook with a new patio door that lead to a new deck, thus maximizing functionality and natural lighting. On the second floor, we put an addition on the rear of the house to build a spacious master suite with a luxurious walk-in closet. Featured below are our favorite paint, finish, and texture combinations.

The Oat team fills this kitchen with a fresh, light, dreamy air.

Though you would never guess it, this kitchen was once a drab, cluttered scene straight out of the 1970’s. (Click here to view the before photos!) We brought in classic cabinetry and modern appliances. We installed upscale light fixtures, matching the underside finish to that of the glossy, sleek, quartzite island below. We added elegant nine piece crown molding, which matches the existing crown molding throughout the rest of the house for continuity. We highlighted our flawless hutch with recessed LED strip lights. Our favorite feature is the creamy, delicately textured back-splash tile.

An out-dated kitchen gets a signature look.

We gutted the original kitchen and began from scratch. We salvaged 100-year-old oak flooring from another room in the house and reinstalled it so that the entire first floor was recreated with the original flooring. This allowed us to preserve and highlight the home’s rich history. We installed clean-cut, custom, Amish-made Shaker-style cabinets, giving the space a timeless feel. To give the kitchen warmth and texture, we exposed the brick chimney. We could go on for paragraphs about all the multitude of changes we made to achieve the final effect, but we’d rather you see for yourself! Featured below is our original 3-D design of the space, and our beautiful follow through.

Farmhouse Kitchen in the City

We demolished the outdated kitchen and started anew. Rich, walnut butcher block counter tops add warmth against the fresh, white ship lap. The fireclay farmhouse sink adds an ageless touch — known for its durability, it is sure to withstand the test of time both in style and functionality. We chose an unexpected shade of blue for the lower cabinets, adding charm and originality to the classic farmhouse feels. The custom-made table top is crafted out of the leftover counter top butcher block, tying the space together. Cozy and convenient breakfast nook built in benches accommodate for seating and extra storage space, accessed through the bench seat.

Recent Testimonials

Choosing someone to entrust with the future of your home or business is a BIG decision, and we want you to feel confident in your selection. We have a five star rating both on Houzz (an online platform for design and build professionals) and Google.

"From design options and pricing to finishing touch suggestions, they were amazing. In a day and age where it is difficult at best to get a return phone call, Oat's communication was a refreshing change. They showed up when they said they would and if there was any deviation from agreed upon plans, they let me know. Their work ethic was impressive. They left the site clean and organized at the end of every work day. We used a wood we did not even know existed until Adam brought it up. (Cumaru - and we used full lengths to make it look even better.) We were pleased from start to finish and hope to use them on our next project." - Cindi Bechtel

"Adam did everything he said he was going to do when he said he was going to do it. That alone is enough to hire Oat with confidence. Their workmanship was also very good. This office renovation project required them to isolate the work space, interact with a number of adjacent business owners, and coordinate with a separate window vendor. They were professional, expedient, and fair with each development. Their communication skills are a ten of ten. That proved important because I was in a different state from start to finish. I'll work with them again in a second. Everyone involved is happy with the outcome Oat delivered." - HU16905222

"Oat Design + Build has completed a couple projects for my wife and I, including remodeling of our kitchen and bath. I’m not sure how they do it, but our projects were given a ton of attention and thought well before they began, and exceeded our expectations as far as appearance and function. Changing something mid project was not a problem, and again the patience and attention to detail was impressive. Our new go-to consultants and builders. A+ design! Trustworthy and fair... they came back to fix a problem." - Sean Durbin
